Spring Skiing Sunday (Updated)

Posted on March 16th, 2014

Chair 2 is spinning at full speed and there is some wonderful spring skiing and riding on the lower two thirds of the mountain.

Partly sunny, with a high near 38. There is a 40 percent chance of a snow/rain mix before noon, then a chance of snow in the afternoon. West wind 20-30 mph with. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Chairlifts in Operation

All chairs  in operation today, as well as the Pika Peak and #100LAPS rope tows. The unscheduled maintenance on Chair 2 is finished and it will be operating at full speed.

95 percent of our trails are open, with Skookum and Tillikum runs closed for the Western Region Open FIS Race. Check out the grooming report for full details on groomed runs and open terrain.

Surface Conditions

Sometimes you have to admit when your wrong, or at least half wrong. My "generally soft groomers across the mountain" prediction turns out only to be true from roughly Nastar down the hill. Above that is very firm. Summit temps have dropped a couple degrees this morning and it might take a little while for the upper mountain runs to soften up. Skiing and riding below the freezing line is very enjoyable, it just takes a couple more heads up turns to get there.

Look for off-piste conditions to soften up a little more today than they have in recent days on the lower two thirds of the hill.

Ski and ride with care as unmarked obstacles do exist. Always enjoy the mountain with a partner to share the fun and stay safe.

Western Region Open FIS Race: Check out some awesome slalom, giant slalom, and super-g racing on Skookum and Tillikum.
