Chair 4 Update February 2025

Mission Ridge guests rely on us to do all we can to promote safe and reliable operations on the mountain. Not only are we in 100% alignment with our guests, but the safety of all who visit Mission Ridge, both guests and staff, is our highest priority and focus. We understand there may be some concerns around recent news regarding Chair 4. Below is information about two unrelated events that have occurred this season. We hope that this information can help clarify what has occurred and dispel rumors. Our teams are some of the best around, and they are constantly working to improve our systems, processes, and procedures. All incidents are thoroughly reviewed with our State and Federal partners who hold chairlift operations to the highest of standards.

At approximately 2:55 p.m. on February 8, 2025, an unoccupied chair on Chair 4 at Mission Ridge detached from the haul rope after making contact with a lift tower due to chair swing. The detached chair landed on the ground in an area where no guests or staff were present. There were no injuries associated with this incident.

The safety of our guests and staff is our highest priority and Mission Ridge’s Lift Maintenance team promptly conducted a thorough inspection of the lift, confirming that the haul rope sustained no damage. Chair 4 remained in operation for the remainder of the day. We are coordinating with the appropriate state and federal regulatory agencies to review the incident in accordance with all applicable safety and operational standards.

On January 1st, a separate and unrelated event occurred when a mechanical issue caused the haul rope to come out of alignment at a tower on Chair 4, which resulted in two carriers on the “light side” (the side of the lift that doesn’t have passengers) being pulled out of the haul rope. There were no injuries associated with this incident. We worked closely with the appropriate state & federal regulatory agencies to conduct a thorough review of this incident. Repairs were made and the chair re-opened the following day after a short delay. The issue on January 1st did require a rope evacuation of a number of guests that was safely conducted by the Mission Ridge Patrol.

Safety is at the core of everything we do, and our teams remain dedicated to upholding the highest standards in lift maintenance and mountain operations. We appreciate your continued support and confidence in our team as we work diligently to promote a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone who visits.
