10:00 Conditions Update: It’s a crisp morning for some Sunday cruising on The Ridge! Groomers are starting the day in slightly firm, but edge-able, conditions, with the softest snow on AM-groomed runs. Off-piste areas are variable, with out-of-the way, north-facing areas still holding a couple inches of powder or packed powder from yesterday’s new snowfall. Beneath that, bases are firm across the mountain, with some chundery conditions in areas that got sun yesterday, such as Bomber. I’d recommend sticking to groomers for the morning, unless you’re thinking of traversing out to seek some stashes. By afternoon, things should be softening up, especially on the middle and lower parts of the mountain, which will open up more terrain for some forgiving turns. We’re excited to finish off the weekend on the right note!
6:30 Conditions Report: The sun is dawning on another beautiful day at The Ridge! A little layer of clouds above the valley is catching the morning light in all the right ways, and I think we’re going to have a lot of fun today. In the forecast: a slight chance of snow, a greater chance of clouds, and comfortable temperatures. Overnight: below freezing temperatures across the mountain. This means the Base Area and Midway, with their warm daytime temperatures, may have experienced a thaw-freeze pattern that could have caused the snow to cure into a firm base to start the day. It seems likely that the upper mountain may also be firm, as that was the conditions at higher elevations yesterday. We should see the base soften as temperatures and the sun rise, but we’re scheduled for an afternoon increase in wind. It’s a game of priorities today. Come up in the morning for calm, louder turns or in the afternoon for some soft sinkers? Diversity is the spice of life. A handy observation, from yesterday as well- the runs groomed in the morning are more edgeable than runs groomed late night. I don’t know how much of that is snowfall dependent, but it’s worth investigating.
