10:00 Conditions Update:Â
Mother Nature bestowed us with a couple fresh inches at the summit, which have livened things up on the upper mountain! It’s a beautiful sunny day, and temperatures have returned to more seasonable levels, with the freezing level hovering just below Midway at the moment. Conditions are highly elevation-dependent today, with the most new snow found near the summit atop a firm base. There’s some really fun turns to be found off-piste on the upper third of the mountain, before snow amounts taper off toward dust on crust around Midway. Below Midway, the base is starting to soften in the sun as spring conditions set in, and that trend will work its way upward throughout the day. Above Midway, groomers are in variable condition, with morning-groomed areas significantly softer than PM-groomed runs, which are quite firm. We’re super excited for some great weather, an optimistic forecast, and the Bomber Banked Slalom making its annual return today!
6:30 Conditions Update:Â
Due to the falling overnight temperatures, there will be limited grooming today. All beginner terrain, most of Tumwater, Sun Spot, all roads, Kiwa, Tillikum, Toketie, Sitkum, Elip, Lower Chak Chak, and Castle have been groomed. Bomber Bowl and North Bomber runs are open without grooming. There is also the possibility of terrain closures due to the conditions or to preserve the snowpack on specific runs for the remainder of the season.
Winter is making an encore after a period of spring-like conditions. It cooled considerably overnight across the mountain, including dropping below freezing in the Base Area. Expect yesterday’s soft, wet snow to have firmed considerably overnight. We were able to collect some snow, mostly at the summit, which will tide us over until the next offering scheduled later this week. While itty-bitty kisses of snowfall are forecast today, conditions are expected to be sunny and mild with comfortable temperatures all around. Highs at lower elevations might jump up above freezing which will cause the base to soften quickly especially in areas of sun exposure. This could lead to a variable skiing experience, or as I like to call it a fun game of versatility. As the sun is coming up, we are already seeing some long horizons and I think it’s going to be a beautiful day today.
See you on the mountain!
