10:00 Conditions Update: After a surprise firm up this morning, things are switching over to full-on spring conditions. Expect soft and sticky conditions in areas receiving full sun and firm to very firm surfaces in shaded areas. As the ambient temperature rises, some shaded areas may also soften, especially at lower elevations. Today, you want to have that combo of good warm temp wax and a nice edge. You’ll want to stay balanced and expect speed changes to make the most out of this beautiful sunny day.
8:00 Conditions Update: Even though temperatures stayed above freezing last night, snow surfaces that have not been exposed to the sun are extremely firm. While this will change quickly as the sun comes up, expect variable conditions across the mountain and a hard base in areas that are shaded.
6:30 Conditions Report:Â I’m ready for some sun after yesterday’s drizzle. We’re preparing for some warm temperatures and calm conditions today with a bit of sun to set the mood. Our surfaces did not refreeze overnight, so get ready for a bit of slush! There will be very limited grooming today due to the warm overnight temperatures (near 45 degrees in the Base Area for most of the night). When temps stay as high as they did last night, it is difficult for the groomers to get out on the mountain without potentially doing more harm to the runs than good.
I’m having a lot of fun with these late season conditions because it’s a new and stimulating experience to navigate the slopes- not just strenuous but kind of techy. I recommend breaking out the gaiters or some waterproof snow pants though cause today’s fun could get a little splashy. I think the views from the summit will be well worth it.
